Along with the Pixel 8 series, Google Camera app will receive a significant UI change

Google is working on a new UI redesign for the Google Camera app that is associated with Android Auto, and it will be presented along with the Pixel 8 lineup. The last major redesign was in 2019, so Google has been preparing something special for its Pixel users

The first thing to pay attention to is the distinct modes for photos and videos. The app presents you with a dedicated toggle right below, allowing you to choose whether you want to take a still, capture a video, or switch to an related mode. Earlier, all the modes were mixed in the carousel.

In the middle, between the previous camera and the others behind, the button to switch between modes is still present. You can use it to select the relevant mode only after taking a photo preview using the button (shortcut to the gallery). It now makes it easier for you to switch between all camera app makers, but it will take time for Pixel users to get used to it.

After swiping up from the bottom of the Viewfinder, an additional menu pops up after performing a swipe-up gesture. However, if you are using a larger Pro model, it does not appear to come within the reach of your thumb.

Finally, Google has also changed the order of some camera modes and grouped others together. In some modes like Long Exposure and Action Pan, Google intends to encourage users to explore more by hiding additional options.

Furthermore, Google is working on a new feature called "Stargard HDR" to speed up the capture process and minimize artifacts. It achieves this by using shorter exposure times between frames, making it more efficient. The Adaptive Torch feature also dynamically adjusts flash intensity to improve lighting conditions. Segmentation AWB functionality is also available, applying different processing in various areas of the image to make it more accurate.
